Introducing GDB's newest guide dog mobility instructor, Jessica Shockley

Thursday February 16, 2023

Jessica kneels beside a yellow Lab guide dog. She is wearing a blindfold flipped up on her head and both look smiling into the camera.

We are proud to congratulate Jessica Shockley, GDB's newest qualified guide dog mobility instructor. Jessica recently completed her GDB apprenticeship that included comprehensive academics, intensive on-the-job training with mentor instructors, and collaborative support from peers and members of various departments.

Jessica is originally from Lebanon, MO where she received Bachelor of Art degrees in Nonprofit Leadership, Psychology, and Applied Critical Thought and Inquiry with a minor in Business Administration from William Jewell College. Jessica knew she wanted a career with a nonprofit that combined her passion for dogs and her desire to serve others and GDB’s reputation for leadership across the industry was what convinced her to apply. After relocating to the Bay Area, she joined GDB as a Canine Welfare/ Neonatal Technician (CWNT) and as a Canine Welfare / Training Technician (CWTT) before beginning her apprenticeship. When asked what she loves most about her job, Jessica says, “I like that I am challenged every day and am always learning new skills. Each client and dog I work helps me grow and it's very rewarding.”

In her spare time, the self-proclaimed “outdoorsy dog person,” can usually be found exploring with her pup, Goose. In addition to hiking, paddleboarding, snowshoeing, skiing, photography, mountain biking, camping, and archery, Jessica is the captain of her women’s soccer team, the “Jammers.”

Congratulations Jessica on this educational milestone in support of our mission!
