Congratulations are in order for one of our newest qualified Guide Dog Mobility Instructors, Chelsea Sims, who recently completed her three-year apprenticeship here at GDB. Chelsea hails from Kalamazoo, MI, and received her college degree in biology from the University of Rhode Island. Prior to coming to GDB, Chelsea worked with a variety of marine mammals including sea lions, dolphins, beluga whales, penguins, and otters, as well as with Asian elephants. "I have always loved animals and wanted to learn more about training and the use of positive reinforcement," she said. She chose to come to GDB because "it sounded like an amazing place with a great mission, not only toward the animals but also toward the clients. It felt like a great opportunity for me to learn more about training and as well as working with people." And all of that has proven to be true! "Every day is different and a constant learning experience," she said, "plus getting to hang out and cuddle with adorable dogs all day is pretty nice!" Chelsea's hobbies include hiking, traveling, and being outdoors. How about pets? "I'm on the endless hunt for the PERFECT golden retriever!" she said. Best of luck to you in your career, Chelsea. We're so proud that you are a part of the GDB team!
